Equipment

  • wok
  • medium bowl
  • Paper Towels

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Chinese Pepper Steak
  1. Begin by patting the beef steak dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Slice it thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness. Coat the sliced beef lightly with baking soda and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. After the resting period, rinse the beef under cold water to remove the baking soda. Pat dry with paper towels to eliminate moisture.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix together the soy sauce, brown sugar, and cornstarch until well combined. Set the sauce aside.
  4. Heat a tablespoon of oil in a hot wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced bell peppers and stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until vibrant and slightly tender.
  5. Push the peppers to the side and add the beef to the center. Stir-fry for about 4-5 minutes until browned and cooked through.
  6. Pour the prepared sauce over the beef and peppers. Stir together and allow to cook for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  7. Plate your Chinese Pepper Steak hot, garnished with chopped scallions. Serve with steamed rice or noodles.
