Step-by-Step Instructions for Chinese Pepper Steak
- Begin by patting the beef steak dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Slice it thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness. Coat the sliced beef lightly with baking soda and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- After the resting period, rinse the beef under cold water to remove the baking soda. Pat dry with paper towels to eliminate moisture.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the soy sauce, brown sugar, and cornstarch until well combined. Set the sauce aside.
- Heat a tablespoon of oil in a hot wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced bell peppers and stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until vibrant and slightly tender.
- Push the peppers to the side and add the beef to the center. Stir-fry for about 4-5 minutes until browned and cooked through.
- Pour the prepared sauce over the beef and peppers. Stir together and allow to cook for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Plate your Chinese Pepper Steak hot, garnished with chopped scallions. Serve with steamed rice or noodles.
