For the Kofta Mixture
  • 1 lb Ground Beef Use 80/20 for juicy meatballs
  • 1 medium Grated Yellow Onion Grate finely for even mixing
  • 3 cloves Minced Garlic
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Parsley Chopped finely
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Mint Chopped finely
  • 1 tsp Ground Cumin
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Allspice
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Black Pepper Adjust to taste
  • 1 tsp Kosher Salt Adjust to taste
  • 1/4 tsp Cayenne or Aleppo Pepper Optional for heat
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil For cooking
For the Cucumber Mint Sauce
  • 1 cup Plain Greek Yogurt Whole milk yogurt recommended
  • 1 medium Grated Cucumber Squeeze out excess moisture
  • 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 clove Extra Minced Garlic
  • 1/2 tsp Salt Season to taste

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Make the Cucumber Mint Sauce by mixing Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, lemon juice, minced garlic, and chopped mint. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Kofta Mixture by combining ground beef, grated onion, minced garlic, parsley, mint, cumin, allspice, cinnamon, black pepper, kosher salt, and optional cayenne. Mix gently.
  3. Form the Meatballs by shaping approximately 2 tablespoons of the kofta mixture into oval or round shapes.
  4. Cook the Kofta by pan-frying, baking, or grilling according to preference.
  5. Serve the Dish by plating the meatballs warm with the chilled cucumber mint sauce on the side.
