- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a 9x13-inch baking dish by greasing it lightly.
- In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 3/4 cup of granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- Add 1/2 cup of chilled unsalted butter, cut into small cubes, to the dry mix and work it in until it resembles coarse sand.
- Stir in 1 large egg and 2 tablespoons of milk until a soft dough forms.
- Pat half of the dough evenly into the bottom of your prepared baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, combine 2 cups of fresh pitted cherries, 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar, and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch.
- Spread the cherry filling evenly over the crust in the baking dish.
- Crumble the remaining dough over the cherry filling.
- Bake for approximately 35 minutes or until golden brown on top and bubbly.
- Allow to cool completely before slicing into bars.
