Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a 9x13-inch baking dish by greasing it lightly.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 3/4 cup of granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  3. Add 1/2 cup of chilled unsalted butter, cut into small cubes, to the dry mix and work it in until it resembles coarse sand.
  4. Stir in 1 large egg and 2 tablespoons of milk until a soft dough forms.
  5. Pat half of the dough evenly into the bottom of your prepared baking dish.
  6. In a separate bowl, combine 2 cups of fresh pitted cherries, 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar, and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch.
  7. Spread the cherry filling evenly over the crust in the baking dish.
  8. Crumble the remaining dough over the cherry filling.
  9. Bake for approximately 35 minutes or until golden brown on top and bubbly.
  10. Allow to cool completely before slicing into bars.
