- Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add pasta and cook for 8–10 minutes until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent.
- Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until aromatic.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes, season with salt and pepper, and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
- Combine the drained pasta with the sauce, tossing until well coated.
- Dice fresh mozzarella and stir into the pasta and sauce mixture until melted.
- Garnish with fresh basil and adjust seasoning to taste.
- Optionally, transfer to a baking dish, sprinkle Parmesan cheese, and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 15-20 minutes.
- Allow to rest for 5 minutes before serving.
- Serve with extra fresh basil and a drizzle of olive oil.
