  • 1 pound thick-cut bacon substitute with turkey bacon for a lighter option
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar coconut sugar can be used for a healthier version
  • 2 tablespoons water helps dissolve and activate the sugar for candied texture
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional for extra heat

For the Crostini
  • 1 large baguette slice into 24 rounds
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil for brushing the bread

Method
 

Bacon Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack atop it.
  2. In a mixing bowl, blend together brown sugar, water, black pepper, cayenne, and red pepper flakes.
  3. Lay the coated bacon strips on the wire rack and bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Crostini Preparation
  1. Slice the baguette into 24 rounds about 1/2 inch thick.
  2. Brush each slice with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Toast in the oven for 8-10 minutes until golden-brown and crispy.
Assembly
  1. Once the bacon has cooled, chop it into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Spread goat cheese on each crostini, top with the chopped bacon, and drizzle with maple syrup or honey.
  3. Garnish with fresh herbs and candied pecans if using, and serve immediately.
