Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked pasta penne or rotini
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish optional

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  4. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the meatballs until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. They don’t need to be fully cooked through as they will finish cooking in the oven.
  5. In a large baking dish, spread the cooked pasta evenly across the bottom. Pour the marinara sauce over the pasta and stir to combine.
  6. Place the browned meatballs on top of the pasta and sauce mixture.
  7. Sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly over the meatballs.
  8. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil if desired.
