Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Start by bringing a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil over high heat. Once bubbling, add the bow tie pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, typically 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until translucent. Do not let it brown.
  3. Stir in 2 teaspoons of minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, stirring constantly.
  4. Add the Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it up. Cook for 5-7 minutes until browned and fully cooked.
  5. Pour in the canned diced tomatoes, dried basil, and oregano, then season with salt and pepper. Simmer for about 5 minutes.
  6. Add the drained pasta to the skillet and toss gently to combine, cooking for 1-2 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese. Cover for a few minutes until the cheese melts.
  8. Serve immediately, garnished with more Parmesan and fresh basil if desired.
