  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional but recommended

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • cheesecloth or fine-mesh strainer

Method

Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Pumpkin Spice Syrup
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the pumpkin purée, brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice, and water. Stir gently until the sugar is incorporated. This step takes about 2 minutes.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring to a gentle simmer, stirring constantly for 3 to 5 minutes until the sugar dissolves and small bubbles form.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Allow the mixture to cool for a few minutes.
  4. Strain the syrup through a cheesecloth or fine-mesh strainer into a bowl, holding back the pumpkin solids. This should take about 2 minutes.
  5. Squeeze the cheesecloth to extract any remaining liquid. You'll have a thick syrup ready to use.
  6. Allow the syrup to cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container and storing it in the refrigerator.
