  • 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar Honey or agave syrup can serve as replacements
  • 1 teaspoon White Pepper Use black pepper for bolder flavor
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch Arrowroot powder is a suitable alternative

Equipment

  • large skillet or wok
  • medium bowl

Method

Make the Sauce
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, garlic paste, ginger paste, brown sugar, white pepper, and cornstarch until well-combined.
  2. Set this flavorful Panda Express Chow Mein sauce aside to allow the flavors to meld while you prepare the vegetables.
Cook the Vegetables
  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat for about 1-2 minutes until shimmering.
  2. Add the chopped yellow onion, diced celery, and shredded cabbage; sauté for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender yet still crisp.
Add Noodles
  1. Increase the heat to high, then add the chow mein noodles and any seasoning packets included, stirring to combine with the sautéed vegetables.
  2. Pour the prepared sauce over the noodle-vegetable mixture, ensuring even coating. Toss everything together gently but thoroughly, allowing the noodles to absorb the flavors for about 2 minutes.
Finish Cooking
  1. Continue stir-frying the Panda Express Chow Mein for an additional 3-5 minutes, keeping an eye on the dish.
Serve
  1. Remove the skillet from heat and transfer the chow mein to serving plates. Garnish with reserved chopped scallions.
  2. Serve immediately for the best taste.
