  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chopped
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream for topping
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish

Method
 

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk and heavy cream over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the mixture is warm but not boiling.
  2. Add the chopped semi-sweet chocolate to the warm milk mixture. Stir continuously until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Stir in the granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Continue to heat for another 2-3 minutes, stirring until everything is well combined and heated through.
  4. Remove from heat and pour the hot chocolate into mugs.
  5. Top each mug with a generous dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish.
