- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic, stirring frequently for about 5 minutes until the onion becomes translucent.
- Add lean ground beef to the skillet. Cook for about 7 minutes, breaking it apart, until browned. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
- Lower the heat and pour in heavy cream, stirring in reserved pasta water gradually until desired thickness is achieved, about 2-3 minutes.
- Once smooth, stir in grated Parmesan cheese until melted. Fold in the cooked penne pasta until well coated.
- Serve hot, garnished with extra Parmesan or parsley if desired.
