Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic, stirring frequently for about 5 minutes until the onion becomes translucent.
  3. Add lean ground beef to the skillet. Cook for about 7 minutes, breaking it apart, until browned. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  4. Lower the heat and pour in heavy cream, stirring in reserved pasta water gradually until desired thickness is achieved, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Once smooth, stir in grated Parmesan cheese until melted. Fold in the cooked penne pasta until well coated.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with extra Parmesan or parsley if desired.
