  • 1 pound Lean Ground Beef Can use ground turkey or pork
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher Salt Can substitute with less table salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper Freshly ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg Freshly grated is preferable
  • 1 cup Whole Milk Can use coconut or soy milk
  • 1 cup Dry White Wine Can use chicken broth or grape juice
  • 1 can Whole Peeled Tomatoes Can swap with crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup Low-Sodium Chicken Broth Can substitute with beef or vegetable broth

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by heating 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large Dutch oven over medium heat for about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Add one finely diced yellow onion, carrot, and celery stalk to the pot. Sauté for 8-10 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in 2 minced garlic cloves and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Add 1 pound of lean ground beef, kosher salt, black pepper, and ground nutmeg. Cook for 5-7 minutes until browned.
  5. Pour in 1 cup of whole milk and simmer for 10-12 minutes until mostly evaporated.
  6. Add 1 cup of dry white wine and cook for another 10-12 minutes until most of the wine has evaporated.
  7. Incorporate one can of whole peeled tomatoes and 1 cup of low-sodium chicken broth. Stir and bring to a simmer.
  8. Reduce heat to low and simmer for about 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.
