A delicious and hearty spaghetti sauce made with ground beef, perfect for serving over pasta.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. For a richer flavor, simmer for up to 1 hour.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. If using, stir in the fresh parsley just before serving.
  6. Serve over cooked spaghetti and top with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.

Notes

  • For added depth of flavor, consider adding a splash of red wine to the sauce while it simmers.
  • To make it a bit spicier, add a pinch of red pepper flakes when cooking the garlic.
