- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, powdered sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt, mixing until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters or a knife.
- Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For a twist, add 1/2 cup of chocolate chips or chopped nuts to the dough before chilling.
- Dust the cooled cookies with additional powdered sugar for a decorative touch.
