2 cups whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Whipped cream, for topping
Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder, for garnish
Instructions
In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk and heavy cream over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the mixture is warm but not boiling.
Add the chopped semi-sweet chocolate to the warm milk mixture. Stir continuously until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
Stir in the granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Continue to heat for another 2-3 minutes, stirring until everything is well combined and heated through.
Remove from heat and pour the hot chocolate into mugs.
Top each mug with a generous dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish.
